What Is Faith? Are Mercy Abortions Really Halaal?
As Salaam Alaikum,
For the past several weeks or so I have been contemplating the question “What is faith?” I think this sprang from a previous blog (at another site)… and well I’ve been stumped by this question ever since.
Maybe my question isn’t exactly “What is faith?” but more about obeying God and keeping it up to him since he may have commanded something. For instance, let’s speak of abortion, as we all know abortion is haraam (forbidden). It specifically tells us in the Q’uran to not abort our children. I have not read anything in the Q’uran (our very first and most important source) that tells us ‘We can’t abort our children unless…” Nothing. The Q’uran even goes further to say that he will not put things on us that is too great for us to bear.
But yet people (Muslims) do say that abortion is ok if the child will be ill or if the mother or child will die during birth.
So I have to ask myself, well since Allah knows best and he has commanded us to not have abortions and that he has told us that he will not put anything on us that is too much for us too bear………shouldn’t we just keep our faith in Allah? Meaning shouldn’t we just keep this child? And if we die during labor, we die… we die with our faith in him and with intentions of obeying him?
What do you think?
salaam
